Feeding Honey To Horses

|

Honey has gained a lot of attention over the last few years. It’s a natural sugar that has a few health benefits for both people and animals. While it should be consumed in moderation, your horse can also enjoy a few of its perks. It can be used as a special treat!

The Benefits of Honey

  • Antioxidant support
  • Boost of energy
  • Mask the taste of a dewormer or medicine
  • Encourage the horse to accept the bit

There isn’t much nutritional value to honey, but it can be used in other ways. It has been said that endurance riders use some to perk up their horses during a ride. Most enjoy the taste!

Note: Foals should not consume honey, due to the risk of botulism.
