Shelby Boisjoli Meged Is The 2023 World Champion Breakaway Roper!

Shelby Boisjoli Meged is the newest breakaway roper to earn the illustrious Montana Silversmiths Gold Buckle. She came into the 2023 Wrangler National Finals Breakaway Roping sitting first and held onto her lead across the two days and ten rounds of competition. To top it off, she set a new Breakaway Roping Earnings record for the year with over $197,000 won!

Not only is she the newest World Champion, but her great horse, Onna, was named the Nutrena Horse of the Year presented by AQHA.

Cheyenne McCartney won the NFBR Average title with 32.2 seconds on 9 head. Danielle Lowman had an OUTSTANDING second day of competition, winning three rounds with sub-2 second runs. A 1.9 and two 1.7s made Day 2 the Dani Low Show. Sarah Angelone also brought her A-game, tying Danielle’s fast time with a 1.7 and winning the Betty Gayle Cooper award for the fastest time of the competition. (In the event of a tie, the award is given to the cowgirl who is higher in the aggregate standings).

Congratulations to all the cowgirls! Stay tuned for more exciting rodeo news!
