Held at Bowie House in Fort Worth and spearheaded by Fancy Lady Cowgirl founder Courtenay DeHoff, alongside presenting sponsor the National Cutting Horse Association, this three-day affair left attendees describing it as “inspiring and soul-fulfilling.”

Fancy Lady Cowgirl represents a global community of women, each expressing the cowgirl spirit in her own distinctive manner. For founder Courtenay DeHoff, being a cowgirl transcends mere occupation or skill set. It embodies a set of cherished values encapsulated within the cowgirl code, including courage, originality, worthiness, grit, integrity, and resiliency—all of which pave the way to a legendary cowgirl life.

Drawing women from three countries and twelve states, the event boasted an impressive lineup of speakers. From the legendary cowgirl Elaine Agather, CEO of the Central Region for J.P. Morgan Private Bank, to PRCA World Champion Tie Down Roper Tyson Durfey, and Chef & Food Network Host Waylynn Lucas, along with the event’s founder Courtenay DeHoff, the stage was graced with powerful voices and inspiring stories.

Participants were also treated to insightful workshops, including sessions led by ICF Professionally Certified Coach Katie Hollingsworth on mental toughness and Fieldcraft Survival’s Amber Elle offering expertise on self-protection. Life coach Kiah Twisselman Burchett also led the group in a vulnerable icebreaker. The event truly embodied the spirit of empowerment and cowgirl camaraderie, leaving attendees with lasting inspiration and invaluable insights.

Iconic cowgirl Elaine Agather shared her eight rules for life with over 100 attendees:

  1. Saddle your own horse, then ride with a good team.
  2. Like what you do and then decide what to like next.
  3. Turn on a dime, but remember to slow down.
  4. Stay connected, but vary connections.
  5. Practice free speech and sprinkle it liberally with “thank yous.”
  6. Get over it, but spend a little time in recovery.
  7. Develop your funny bone, but cry with them too.
  8. Strengthen your backbone.

Tyson Durfey inspired attendees to prioritize themselves, emphasizing that true change begins when self-care becomes a priority. He reminded them that when your life seems like it’s over, it’s really just in transition.

Courtenay DeHoff concluded the event with her keynote “Live Legendary: Unleash the Cowgirl Within.” Her speech encouraged attendees to pursue their wildest dreams, bravely embrace their journey, and not to confuse their intermission for their finale.

The event concluded with exclusive experiences at the National Cutting Horse Super Stakes show, featuring drinks, shopping, and a private cutting demonstration led by Kathy Daughn. Kathy, a two-time female Futurity champion and NCHA hall of famer, shared her remarkable journey. Despite not growing up in a horse-centric family, Kathy’s passion led her to frequent barns as a young girl, absorbing every ounce of equine knowledge she could. Her story epitomizes the essence of Fancy Lady Cowgirl, demonstrating that women from diverse backgrounds can embody the cowgirl spirit in their own unique ways. NCHA also welcomed PBR (Professional Bull Rider’s) fan favorite bucking bull Top Dollar for a special meet and greet!

The event officially wrapped up with ‘Coffee at the Cowgirl,’ a private viewing at the legendary Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, the only museum in the world dedicated to the cowgirl.

Get A Virtual Tour Of Shea Durfey’s New House https://www.cowgirlmagazine.com/shea-new-durfey-house/ Mon, 30 Mar 2020 22:21:17 +0000 https://www.cowgirlmagazine.com/shea-new-durfey-house/ Shea and Tyson are in the process of building a new home, and Shea finally gave her fans a sneak peek at the new Durfey house!

It’s still a work in progress and it’s already totally gorgeous.

In Shea’s quick preview tour of the new Durfey house, we get to see what will be the entrance, the foyer, Tyson’s office, the space for Tyson’s built-in saddle rack, the living room and fireplace, and even a glimpse of the kitchen (wait until you see this island).

The huge metal door opens to a wide entrance hallway, featuring a two-material floor: wood on the sides and travertine down the center.

Tyson’s office is to the left, and nearby is a small, closet-sized space that Shea identifies as the future home of a saddle rack for Tyson.

The hallway to the guest room features some stunning cathedral ceilings. Shea notes that when the new Durfey house is complete, each ceiling section will have its own chandelier.

As she pans from the hallway to the living room, we get a little peek of the developing kitchen. THAT ISLAND, amiright?

Shea and Tyson have been staying at home during social distancing, though she admits to going a little “stir crazy”!

“I am ready for this to all be over!!!!” she wrote on Instagram. “I want to be able to wear make up again and fix my hair lol. I loved not having to do anything the last few weeks but hang out with the kiddos and family but days like today I just want to go to town and be back to normal life.”

Tyson Durfey’s Pre-Rope Mindset https://www.cowgirlmagazine.com/tyson-durfey-mindset/ Wed, 04 Mar 2020 21:45:26 +0000 https://www.cowgirlmagazine.com/tyson-durfey-mindset/ Everyone has their pre-event rituals and things they tell themselves right before they hit the dirt. On Instagram this week, Tyson Durfey reflected on how he used to think before his runs:

“Don’t break your leg again.

“Don’t break the barrier.

“If you don’t win, you’ll lose everything you worked for.

“This is the B.S. I would hear in my mind every single time I went to compete!

“I know I’ve been talking a lot about mindset, but there’s a reason for that.

“It’s because everything that you do flows from your mind and out into reality.

“When I breakdown a run, I’m not only breaking down the technical side of it.

“I’m breaking down the mindset part of it as well.

“Mental mistakes are just the same as technical mistakes.

“Everything we do in my world is 80% mental and 20% technical.

“But that video is soon to come.

“More on this.

“I’m so focused on what I want that there’s no room for negativity.

“You want a quick hack?

“The reason I jump up and down so much before I compete is because it’s almost impossible to think negative while jumping up and down on a consistent basis.

“This is a technique I developed through trial & error over many years.

“I go from jumping up and down to a stretch.. all while prepping my mind for the run I want.

“The next time you get ready to compete, attack your day, or chase life.. try doing some of these things I talk about.

“Don’t just think you’re stupid, or inadequate, or ugly.

“Don’t listen to that negative self-talk.

“Optimize your mind for greatness.

“Take action. ?

Shea Fisher Durfey, Tyson’s wife, is always there to support her partner. Heck, Shea and their girls even have #TeamDurfey outfits!

Shea Durfey Is Matching With Her Daughters For NFR https://www.cowgirlmagazine.com/shea-durfey-matching-nfr-looks/ Tue, 10 Dec 2019 01:47:01 +0000 https://www.cowgirlmagazine.com/shea-durfey-matching-nfr-looks/ Let’s be honest. We’re all obsessed with NFR fashion. The first step is admitting it, and we’re admitting that we’re in love with Shea Durfey’s NFR looks so far.

We also noticed a pattern: she and her daughters usually match! And—even better—they’ve been matching in custom garb to show love for #48, Tyson Durfey.

For the Back Number Ceremony, Shea stunned in a maroon, sparkly dress (and dressed Praise and Risyn in some maroon velvet to complete the family look).

Shea brought some black-and-silver attitude for night 1 of NFR, and had her girls in some Durfey shirts!

Even while shopping at Cowboy Christmas, the Durfey’s looks were on point. Check out the animal print numbers!

Here, Shea and her little ladies rock photos of daddy Tyson for some trade show shopping.

Okay, how cute is this? Red and white and Durfey all over! Nothing like a family supporting their favorite cowboy.

What?! More custom #TeamDurfey looks?! Heck yes! The Durfey’s matched in black and python, still rocking number 48, for Round 3.

Round 4 brought out custom gold 48 apparel, which Shea paired with some gold, zebra-striped pants. Praise and Risyn stepped out in white-and-gold NFR looks.

We can’t wait to see what Shea and her family wear next!
