In this discipline, riders work their way through a shooting pattern aboard their horse. It requires good horsemanship, a quiet horse, and steady hand. Getting Started in Mounted Shooting Join a local club: The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association is the leading organization for the sport. There are competitions held at a local, regional, and world levels. In order to learn the many rules, it's advisable that beginners join a local club. Work on your horse and gun skills separately: In the beginning, it can be helpful to improve your shooting skills on the ground before a horse is involved. You'll also have to be a decent rider before you mix the two. Try a few gun and holsters: You need to get a feel for what works best for you. It's not just about looking pretty! Take your time: Don't be in a rush. This discipline has a learning curve and requires commitment and practice.
