Less than an hour from San Antonio, Bandera is situated in Texas Hill Country. This little town has less than 1,000 folks, but definitely isn't short on western spirit. On any given day, you can spot horses tied to hitching posts, a wagon coming down Main Street and line dancing at the local honky-tonks.

How Did Bandera Get Its Title

Bandera earned its title as 'Cowboy Capital of the World' because it was a staging area for the Great Western Cattle Drive in the 1800s. The Bandera Cattle Company reacts these historical times with live performances on Saturday afternoons. Additionally, many National Rodeo Champions call Bandera home. A bronze monument honors them on the Courthouse lawn.

Fun Western Activities for the Whole Family

In the summer months, you can catch a glimpse of real cowboys at Bandera's weekly rodeos. There are also quite a few dude ranches that welcome guests throughout the year. Visitors can saddle up and go for a historical ride through the town and nature trails.

In addition to horseback riding, the town offers museums, ranch tours, scenic drives, hunting, live music, water activities and shopping.
