The American Quarter Horse Association is honored to recognize the O RO Ranch in Arizona as the 2022 AQHA Best Remuda and Fazenda Gruta Azul in Brazil as the 2022 AQHA International Best Remuda.

The O RO Ranch has bred the right kind of American Quarter Horse since long before the inception of AQHA – tough, gritty horses capable of ranch work in the rough country near Prescott, Arizona. Read more about the O RO Ranch.

For decades, Norberto Soares Leite’s Fazenda Gruta Azul in Dois Irmãos Do Buriti, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, has raised cattle and American Quarter Horses. Fazenda Gruta Azul’s name translates to “blue grotto,” and on its rich grasslands cattle are raised. To work the cattle, Norberto and his family raise American Quarter Horses, and have more than 200 horses on their ranch, which are used almost every day. Learn more about Fazenda Gruta Azul.

The O RO Ranch and Fazenda Gruta Azul will receive specially designed awards presented during the 2023 AQHA Breeder Banquet, and the ranches will be featured in The American Quarter Horse Journal.

Since 1992, AQHA has honored the contributions ranch horses have made to the heritage of the American Quarter Horse by presenting the AQHA Best Remuda award to ranches that raise outstanding horses. In 2018, AQHA introduced the International Best Remuda award.
