J.J. Wooten’s love for turquoise was something she couldn’t ignore, but her parents said no to her dream of becoming a jeweler and insisted she get her bachelor’s degree.  She attended Texas Christian University, and after graduating decided to pursue hair school.  She owned a hair salon for many years but says her love of turquoise kept catching up to her.

“Native American folklore says that turquoise will make a woman respected and loved by all men and protected from all harm.  That’s enough of an impact for me!  I just help get it distributed,” she says.

Her proudest moment so far is when Lee Harris, the Stylist for Drew Barrymore and “The Drew Barrymore Show” chose Hippie Cowgirl Couture for her turquoise jewelry on the show!  Of the amazing accomplishment, J.J. says,  “He has such amazing style, and we can showcase the work of dozens of artists on a nationwide platform for all to appreciate.”

As for the future, J.J. says, “Hippie Cowgirl Couture has been an adventure from day one, and I’m going to be just as excited as y’all are to see what happens next!  We’re just on the rollercoaster over here!  I have an amazing support network of everyone from my old schoolteachers, hair clients, family, and total strangers on Instagram!”

“I love to make people laugh, I love to see them smile,” she says.  “So, whether it’s sharing my sense of humor or showing them something stunningly beautiful, that’s what’s on my heart at the end of the day.  Go about everything you do with the confidence of a 4-year-old in a Batman t-shirt!  It’s a game changing experience, I promise ya!”
