A solitary knoll rising above the plains of central Oklahoma, Persimmon Hill has long stood silent over this storied corner of the American West. Centuries before the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum was constructed atop this outcropping, Persimmon Hill served as a vantage point for Native Americans to surveil the surrounding Deep Fork River valley.

In the mid-19th century, this promontory saw millions of Texas longhorns plodding north via a nearby branch of the Chisholm Trail, while decades later it witnessed a land run turn barren prairie into the bustling metropolis of Oklahoma City overnight. Later still, Route 66 made a sweeping arc around the base of Persimmon Hill before once again settling due west on its journey across the continent.

Persimmon Hill has long been synonymous with the West. That tradition continues with Persimmon Hill, a uniquely Western shopping experience at the National Cowboy Museum.

Boasting a renovated interior, new branding and an easier-to-shop website, Persimmon Hill as a name reflects the true scope of the offerings available within. “Anyone who has shopped our store before knows this is not your typical gift shop experience,” said Chief Marketing Officer Seth Spillman. “For many years, we’ve been more than a Museum Store. We’ve been a store that happens to be at a museum. So we’ve decided to reimagine our brand and better align it with the experience the store was already delivering.”

Beyond the name and branding, new product has been added, with deeper offerings from legacy brands like Pendleton, Wrangler, Rockmount, and Bohlin, as well as jewelry brands like Pearls by Shari, Christina Greene, The Tellers, Tim Cherry, and others. Its mission to preserve and interpret the evolving history and cultures of the American West still remains.
