There are plenty of simple ways to keep them in tip-top shape without climbing into the saddle. For some horses, they can't be ridden due to their size, their age, or an injury. Other times, you may be too busy and don't have the time to tack up. Don't worry- there's still plenty you can do! Exercising Your Horse In order to keep your horse healthy and fit, you'll need to provide them with regular exercise. For those horses that can't be ridden or if you're short on time, try some of these ideas instead. Daily turnout- track systems are especially helpful for encouraging movement Lunging Long-lining Hand walking (around the arena, barn property, or even on the trails) Liberty training Groundwork exercises like yielding hindquarters and turning on the forehand Driving/pulling a cart Use a horse walker or treadmill Swim with them Stretches Ponying Liberty training.
