Horses come in all different shapes and sizes. Can you guess the largest and smallest of the breeds? It’s no mystery that draft horses are some of the widest and tallest of the bunch. You’ve also probably come across some of the shortest. These breeds are more popular than you might have imagined!

The Largest

These big, powerful animals fall in the draft category of horses. They’re nicknamed ‘gentle giants’, as most have very easy-going personalities. The record for the tallest living horse goes to Big Jack, an impressive 20 hands 2.75 in Belgian gelding. There are a few other breeds that also compete for largest horse:

The Smallest

These pint-sized horses and ponies are just too cute! Some are small enough for you to pick up, while others make great riding horses for small children. At just 17 inches tall, Thumbelina is the shortest horse in the world. She is a dwarf miniature horse. Check out these other small breeds:
