The horse has been an icon of inspiration for art since the earliest known art. It started with paintings found in caves made with clay and charcoal. From there, early civilizations included horses in their pottery and tapestry. There is a long history of art and horses. Stablewest, an art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, celebrates this connection.

"Ultimately it is the horse that’s been a source of inspiration for centuries, stirring emotions within the human heart that transcend any particular artistic medium," writes Stablewest on their website. "By cultivating a rich equestrian-driven community, Stablewest pays tribute to the beauty of equine culture and the inexhaustible greatness inherent in horses."

The gallery showcases art that strictly commemorates the horse, a portrayal of their slogan, "Champion the horse." Alongside the art, viewers can find books, prints, gifts, and other products.

Ten percent of Stablewest's proceeds goes to The American Wild Horse Campaign, an organization that protects and defends the wild horses and burros of America. Stablewest not only wants to celebrate the past connection of horses and art, but wants to continue the promotion in today's world.

Stablewest will show new work on September 8th with a reception from 4:oo to 8:00 pm. See more here!
